July 9, 1941 - August 8, 2020
Helmut was the youngest of eight children born into the family of Fred and Olga Wolf in Lublin, Kreis Thorn, West Prussia on July 9th, 1941.
As with all of his generation, his younger years were marred by war, displacement and resettlement. In 1950 the family was blessed with the realization of the dream to leave Europe and immigrated to Vernon, B.C. with the sponsorship of Olga's sister, Leona (Oswald) Schier.
Helmut graduated from Vernon Senior Secondary School in the summer of 1960. Later that year he was a passenger in a motor vehicle accident which left him paralyzed. Therapy, rehabilitation and determination provided Helmut with new found independence which he cherished.
Helmut loved his community, which he served wholeheartedly. He was an amateur radio operator (VE7DLZ), served as both a Director and President of the Vernon & District Association for Community Living along with various positions on Boards with the Pleasant Valley Church of God and Western Canada Church of God Ministries.
For thirty years Helmut was employed with Roko Service Ltd. He loved sports both as a spectator and as a participant. In 1982 Helmut placed as a bronze medalist in the B.C. Summer Games for wheelchair tennis. His love of life and purpose gave him the energy and spirit to live life to its fullest. But more importantly, Helmut anchored his faith in Jesus Christ.
On August 8th, 2020 at the age of 79 years, Helmut slipped away from us. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bernhard and Erhard. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his siblings, Else Hembruch, Erna Kober, Hilda (Ewald) Hamann, Tabea (Edelbert) Janke and Siegbert Wolf along with seventeen nieces and nephews and their extended families.
Cremation preceded a private family gathering which took place at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020 when Helmut was laid to rest in the grave of his mother.
A Celebration of Helmut's Life will be held at a later date. We mourn our loss but are strengthened in the knowledge that a new body awaits those that endure; therefore, our united call was for Helmut to run and jump toward Heaven.
We, Helmut's family extend a huge thank you to all the doctors, nurses and care aides, especially those at Creekside Landing Assisted Living Residence, for your investment of time and energy as you cared for Helmut.
