LUKENS
Henry Lukens was born in Onstwedde, Holland July 31, 1933. His family immigrated to Canada in 1949. After moving to Armstrong, BC in 1952, he met a beautiful checkout girl while buying groceries at the Armstrong Co-op. Henry and Lora were married March 4, 1955. They had three sons and one daughter. He owned and operated A. Smith & Sons garage with business partner Ken Watt from 1964 to 1978. During this time he also took on another job which he loved. He drove thousands of Armstrong/Spallumcheen children to school over a 32 year period before retiring in 1996. He and Lora were then free to travel south where he donated his time and skills on various building projects. At home he spent many hours tinkering, woodworking and fishing. Henry was a very caring and giving man, with a strong faith in the Lord He was never too busy to help a friend or a neighbor. He truly “fought a good fight, finished the race & kept the faith” (2Timothy 4:7) On November 19, 2002 Henry joined his Creator and many relatives & friends who had gone on before him, including parents Albertus & Geesien, brother Harm, parents-in-law John & Sarah Vogt, sister-in-law Em Healy & close friend Delmer Dinwoodie (who has been waiting with open arms & crescent wrench in hand!) He leaves behind his loving wife Lora, his children and their families, Brian & Karen (Jim, Amy, Rick.), Laurie & Rita (Sarah, Andrew, Kenny), Glenn & Tara (Kelsey, Jordon, Jayleen) and Brenda Dyck (Christy, Jason,) sister Lucy (John) Vanderhoek, brother Al (Glenda), step-mother An, in-laws Tina Lukens, Clara (Gary) Klassen, Gordon (Lorna) Healy as well as many nieces, nephews & friends. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held on Sunday November 24, 2002, 7:00pm at the Armstrong Bible Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
