Henry Schweitzer

We regret to announce the passing of Henry

Schweitzer at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on May 2nd,

2008 at the age of 86 years. Henry, the youngest

son of fourteen children, was born in Markinch,

Saskatchewan on April 13, 1922. He married

Margaret Williams of Pennant, Saskatchewan on

June 15, 1942. Their fi rst son Dale was born on

March 8th, 1944. Henry served in the armed forces

in Europe from 1944-1945. After the war was

over, he and his wife and young baby moved to

New Westminster, B.C. where he worked as a truck

driver. A second son Wayne was born on September

15th, 1949. In 1960, the family moved to Balfour,

B.C. where they owned and operated the Rainbow

Resort. Henry also worked on the Kootenay Lake

Ferries where he earned his Captain’s papers and

captained the MV Anscomb until his retirement

in 1982. In 1990 they moved to Vernon, B.C. He

leaves behind his wife

Margaret of 66 years, one son Wayne and his wife

Kay of Nelson; his two grandsons, Robert (Shelley)

of Kamloops and great grandson Ethan (8 months);

and Richard (Daphne) of Edmonton and great

grandson Tyler (newborn). He is also survived by

his close nephew Harry of Vernon, niece Lorraine

Seaman of Kamloops and numerous other nieces

and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Dale

in 1999. At the request of the deceased, there will

be no service. Anyone wishing to do so may send

donations in memory of Henry to a charity of their

choice.
