Mr. Herbert A. (Herb) Spence

with great sorrow after a valiant battle with cancer passed away in the Campbell River Hospital Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the age of 57. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sherry, beloved son of Vivian and Arthur Spence of Vernon B.C., daughter Jennifer Goodwin (Darrel Goodwin) Quesnel, son Jason Spence of Vancouver, brother Eric Spence of Kamloops, Grand-daughter Danielle Goodwin, Grand-son Reid Goodwin, nephews Jeffrey and Kenneth Spence and numerous cousins, step-children, Jeffrey, Lisa and Jennifer. Herb was born in Vancouver BC on January 3, 1945. Herb started his career in the BC Forest Service at age 16, in suppression crews fighting forest fire in the province. Taking his University course in the Forestry where he excelled. His great love was directing the Water Bombers and at one time was in command of the total BC air fire suppression flights. Herb worked in many districts, with his last move to Salmon Arm, as Operations Manager. Ending a working career with the BC Forest Service spanning 34-1/2 years. Herb and his wife Sherry retired to Campbell River as both of them had a love of the ocean. A Memorial service was held in Campbell River Saturday, November 13, 2002. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Canadian Cancer Society - -Vancouver Island Lodge.
