MRS. Hilda Elizabeth Cochrane died in Vernon on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005 in her 90th year. Hilda was born in Vernon on December 23rd, 1915, the youngest daughter of Charles and Anne Bristow. She grew up in Vernon, excelled in school, won numerous academic awards and was proud of many years of perfect attendance. Hilda enjoyed a long career in the Bank of Montreal and retired after more than 30 years of service. She was an active member of the bank’s Pensioner’s Association. Hilda had a keen interest in history and was a life member of the Okanagan Historical Society. Travel and researching family history were her special joy. She made numerous trips to Europe and the USA and was still travelling until well into her 80’s. After years of collecting family history, Hilda published two books which are treasured by those she leaves behind. Hilda married the love of her life, Harold Cochrane on August 25th, 1940 and enjoyed 33 years together until Harold’s death in 1973. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons; Michael (Nyra) and Patrick (Betty Anne) both of Vernon, B.C., her daughter; Maureen (Walter) Willms of Lethbridge, Alberta, 12 grandchildren; Robert, Michelle, Jenny, Waneta, Marshall, Jennifer, Jonathan, Lonnie, Christine, Sharon, Tyler and Matthew, 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and her sister-in-law, Verna Bristow. Besides her husband Harold, Hilda was predeceased by her brother Charles and sisters Ethel and Ivy. Cremation preceded the Funeral Service which will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Friday, May 6th, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Canon Chris Harwood-Jones officiating. A Reception will follow in the Parish Hall. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Hilda to the Vernon Museum & Archives.
