October 3, 1925 - August 24, 2018
Hildegard was born on October 3rd, 1925 in Cologne, Germany and passed away peacefully on August 24th, 2018 in the Pleasant Valley Manor, Armstrong, B.C., her home for the past eight years. She would have celebrated her 93rd birthday in just five weeks.
Hildegard is survived by her children, Michael, Moira, Danny and Kevin; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her three siblings, Wilfried, Gerda and Volker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1968; and two sons, Martin Dillon in 1976 and Walter Dillon in 2007.
Hildegard grew up in Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1954 where she met Frank Dillon, an Irishman who had just recently arrived in Canada himself. They married and had a family of six children. After Frank's sudden death Hildegard worked and raised her children, ranging in age from 3-12, all on her own. She cared for mentally challenged adults for 25 years in Orillia, Ontario. Upon retirement in 1990, she moved to Vernon, B.C.
In respecting Hildegard's wishes, she was cremated and there will be no funeral service held.
We, Hildegard's family are forever grateful to the wonderful staff at Pleasant Valley Manor for their love, friendship and care of Mom over the years. We also extend a very special thank you to Phyllis Simon, a friend of Mom's for the past 20 years who gave so much of herself to caring for her when we could not be there. You all were angels sent to help our Mom in so many ways and we are so thankful for everything you did for her.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Hildegard to a literacy charity or a local food bank.
