Hilton Garner Spellman

1924 – 2015

Hilton G. Spellman was born in Regina Saskatchewan Dec. 17, 1924. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Vernon Jubilee Hospital July 7, 2015 at 90 years old. Hilton is survived by his sister: Gladys Miller of Duncan BC; 3 children: Evan (Jo Ann) Spellman of Prince Rupert, Karen(Gord) Meggait of Armstong, Darrel Spellman of Armstrong; and 4 grandchildren: Joseph, Jordanna , Sarina and Morgan .

As a young boy in 1928, Hilton’s family left the farm in Saskatchewan and moved to California where he had many fond memories of fishing and spending time at the golf course collecting lost golf balls. Travelling to Florida in his childhood was a highlight as the family was involved in harness racing which he found very exciting . Hilton learned to fall trees in a camp on Vancouver Island when he was 17. He belonged to the forest rangers until he was drafted at 19 into the Second World War where he served overseas in Europe. Hilton spent most of his working career in the Bella-Coola and Dean channel area of the west coast operating his tug boat and hand logging. Hilton’s greatest passion was prospecting and he never retired from searching for that “great find” and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge on the subject. Hilton had an adventurous spirit and had a twinkle of gold dust in his eyes, he will be missed . Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at
