March 7, 1927 - October 16, 2024
In Loving Memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ida Alanda Gruber (née Weidman) on October 16, 2024. Ida was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on March 7, 1927. She was the youngest in her family of five children - Rosalie, Edward, Ronald, Erna, (and Ida). Life was very difficult in the Prairies in the 1920's so the family packed up and moved in 1934 to the Okanagan for a better life.
Ida attended Beairsto and Fulton schools in Vernon, BC. After the war, she met a young soldier, Frank Gruber, and they were married in 1949. They built a house outside Lumby, BC, and in 1954 their first son, Brian, arrived. Allan came along in 1957.
Ida had a passion for gardening. The garden in Lumby was huge and Ida was kept busy in the summer tending it, canning, pickling, freezing, or just eating fresh.
The boys grew up and left Vernon for further schooling and eventually started their own families. Brian and Lynda had Timothy and Elizabeth, while Allan with Carey had Brianne, Calen, and Evan. There are four great-grandchildren - Adrianna, Samantha, Brielle, and Benjamin.
Sadly, Ida's husband, Frank, passed away in 1997 after 48 years of marriage. Their son, Allan, passed away in 2019.
Ida is now at peace with her Lord and Saviour.
A Memorial Service will take place at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Rev. William Pantzer officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room.
