Irene Lora Goll
On April 18th, 2013 Irene passed away peacefully in the North Okanagan Hospice with her loving husband George by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Irene was born on March 3rd, 1945 in Edmonton, Alberta. The youngest of seven children, she was raised on a small farm in Leask, Saskatchewan by her mother Pauline. One of her fondest memories was bringing the lambs into the house in winter and the sounds of their little hooves on the floor. In 1956, when Irene was eleven years old, she and her family moved to Vernon where she continued to live until her early twenties. At this time she moved to Calgary, Alberta but returned after a couple years to make Vernon her home.
Irene’s love of working with the public led her to a variety of jobs she enjoyed over the years, though she will be best remembered for her fourteen years at Esso, before she retired in December, 2009. Irene loved to play bingo and was an avid bowler in her earlier years, where she made many friends who adored her. She loved to dance, especially with her husband George, as they could be found tearing up the dance floor at many social events. Her smile and laughter could light up a room. As a devoted, loving Wife, Mom and Oma, she will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her husband George, to whom she was married for 38 years; four children, Joyce, Terry, Cindy and Laurie; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Amanda, Daniel and Nathan; four sisters, Lila, Dorothy, Lee and Lorraine; one brother, Freddie; as well as many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Pauline; one sister, Betty; and one grandson, Scott.
A Celebration Of Irene’s Life will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 26th, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Joel Haberstock officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room. At the conclusion of the Reception interment will take place in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Irene to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 or the Canadian Cancer Society, #104-3402-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S1.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gilhooly, the many Specialists and Staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital as well as Hospice House for all their compassion and caring during Irene’s final days.
