Bernice “Irene” Hopkins (Nee: Norum) took her last breath with family by her side on Thursday, July 27th, 2012 in White Rock, B.C. She had reached the age of 86 years. Her love for her family, her inner strength, and her courage, enabled her to endure the long battle she had fought.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her mother and father; her sister, Doris; and her brother, Kenneth. She will be forever dearly loved and missed by her seven children and their partners, fifteen grandchildren and their respective partners, and two great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her brother Wayne, sister-in-law Elaine and sister-in-law Doreen.
Irene was born and raised in Simpson, Saskatchewan. In 1947 she moved out west to teach in Lytton, B.C. It was here that she met her dear husband of 57 years. Together they raised their family in Richmond before retiring to Vernon. For the past two years, Irene has resided in White Rock.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Peace Portal Lodge in White Rock for the care, compassion and support they provided during these last few months.
A funeral service for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 4th, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church, 1204-30 Avenue, Vernon, with Rev. Schulz officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Irene to the Canadian Cancer Society.
