MILES — Irene Lillian, passed away peacefully at home on November 29, 2004. Irene was born on August 4, 1909 in Medicine Hat, AB. She married Maurice Miles in 1935 in Canoe, BC. They moved to Lumby in 1941 and then to the farm on Rawlings Lake Road where they lived until 1972 at which time they moved back to town. Irene’s passion and what she loved most in life was her knitting, gardening and her family. She was a lifetime member of the Pythians Sisters and the Old Age Pensioners. Irene was predeceased by her husband Maurice, great grandson Andrew Hornell, grandsons-in-law Chris Stock and Joe Ouellette and great step granddaughter Renee Mazu. She is survived by daughters: Merle (Frank) Newbery of Armstrong and Kathleen (Willie) Gutzke of Lumby; grandchildren: Marilyn Long of Merritt, David (Sheri) Hornell of Lumby, Elizabeth Stock of North Lauderdale, Florida, Olive (Don) Almaas of Enderby, Gladys (Larry) Handley of Surrey and Wendy (Reynold) Mazu of Cherryville; great grandchildren: Karen and Liane Hornell, Amber and Jeremy Long, Jordon and Rachelle Almaas, Jason Van Wyk, Clayton, Brent, Melissa, Rachel and Meghan Mazu, Reed and Evan Handley; sister June Striegler and nephews: Bruce, Ken (Shelley) and Robert Striegler. A celebration of her life will be held at the Lumby Christian Church on Friday, December 3 at 1:00 PM with a tea to follow. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
