Iris Alvie Maud Pope

Alvie died peacefully in her sleep on September 1, 2009 in Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the grand age of 96. One of 12 children, Alvie was born in Vancouver and grew up on a dairy farm in Chilliwack. While working as a florist in Vancouver she met and married her beloved husband, Leslie Arthur Pope, who passed away in 1995. Alvie and Les moved to Vernon in 1942 where she was active in many community activities, including two terms as President of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary. Alvie is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Paul Christie of Coldstream, her devoted grandchildren Jennifer (Casey) and Leigh of Vancouver and Jarret of San Francisco, her sister Beverly of Charlottetown PEI, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is sadly missed and fondly remembered for her love of nature (especially cats!), her graciousness, and unwavering support of family and friends.

A celebration of Alvie’s life will be held at a time and place to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.
