May 11, 1927 - May 25, 2019
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Jacqueline (Jackie) Dolan on May 25, 2019 at the age of 92.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Bill Dolan of Calgary, Alberta; Mike Dolan of Vernon, BC; sister Deanna (Mike) Wagner of Kamloops, BC; brother-in-law Russ Sankey of Pemberton, BC; granddaughters Tara (Derek) Wilson of Calgary, Alberta; Carissa Dolan of Calgary, Alberta; son-in-law Myles Wowk of Langley, BC; great grandchildren Braeden, Sidney, Sienna and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jackie was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1987; daughter Marie Ann Wowk in 2017; brothers Edgar LeBlanc, Gerald LeBlanc, Roland LeBlanc and her sister Rhea Sankey.
Jackie was born on May 11, 1927 in Montreal Quebec. Her family moved to Conquest, Saskatchewan and eventually settled in Lumby, BC in 1937 where she grew up. At 16 she joined a girlfriend working as a porter at St. Martin's Hospital in Oliver, BC. There she met her future husband Mike. She and Mike were married in Lumby, BC in 1950. There were many stops along the way in both Alberta and BC before settling in Vernon in 1965. From 1968 to 1969 she ran the coffee shop in the basement bowling alley below Ben's Shoe Store (now the location of the HSBC), and after that her and Mike decided to go into business for themselves. The first Jackie's Coffee Shop was a 38 seat shop at the rear of Ben's Shoe Store that opened in 1971. Four years later they moved into the restaurants permanent location taking over the space vacated by Vern's Pool Room. Jackie truly enjoyed cooking for her customers and Jackie's Coffee Shop was the place to go for a delicious home cooked meal, friendly service and a laugh or two. Jackie made many lasting friendships over her years in business.
Jackie retired in 1990. Jackie enjoyed bowling as well as spending time at the family cabin on Okanagan Lake where she taught all her children and grandchildren how to play crib, her favourite card game. Jackie took every opportunity to go on an adventure, (travel) as she would say. Her greatest passion was her family and extended visits were common. Jackie moved into McCullough Court in 1992 where she spent 27 wonderful years. She made many lasting friendships, played countless games of crib and enjoyed all the amenities of retirement living. Jackie had a great sense of humour, was quick with both a hug and smile. She had the most positive attitude and outlook on life of anybody we knew. She will be dearly missed.
