1930 – 2015
James Edmund Nelson, born July 23, 1930 at Barriere, BC, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, May 10, 2015. Jim loved eating – large prawns specifically; the antics of his grandchildren; hunting and fishing; travelling; Archie Bunker; cheering for the Armstrong Jr. & Sr. Shamrocks Lacrosse; woodworking and being in charge. Not necessarily in that order. He was a soft-hearted, generous man under a rough, tough exterior.
Jim lived a full adventurous life. In early years he went to Vancouver Vocational school for a mechanics trade; bought Terminal Motors in Armstrong in 1956; assisted with starting the Armstrong chapter of the Kinsmen club and initiated the club starting the Armstrong Rodeo in 1966, which included a couple of bull rides!
His logging career started in 1963 and later the travelling bug got him and he saw every country but Cuba. He had an entertaining hunting and fishing trophy room with adventure stories to go along with each trip.
In later years he took that same adventurous spirit when he retired and took up his love for wood and learned to be a wood craftsman; hiked Rose Swanson Mountain a short time after breaking his pelvis; weekly setting up his tables at the Vernon and Armstrong Farmers Marker. He loved his Armstrong community and anyone who would stop by to chat.
Jim was predeceased by his amazing wife Muriel this January 2015 and his sister Lillian Nelson in September 2007.
When Jim took off on his last adventure, he left behind his brother Clarence; daughters; Maureen (Bob Andres), Sheila (Marvin Boyd); son: Pat (Debbe); seven grandkids; three great grandkids; and his many, many friends. Goodbye to our great white hunter. We’ll miss you dad/grampa. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.MyAlternatives.ca
