February 22, 2020
A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a true friend, passed away on February 22 2020.
Jim was born in 1942 and spent his youth on the family dairy farm in Chilliwack, BC. As a young man he worked for CIBC, but deciding that was not the career for him, he embraced life as an entrepreneur. With much determination and hard work, Jim owned and successfully operated the Athabasca Valley Hotel (Hinton), Hegler's Resort (Coldstream) and lastly Vernon Moving and Storage (Vernon).
Jim was a keen fisherman and enjoyed many trips to the Queen Charlottes in search of that perfect salmon. He was an avid snow and water skier and had unending patience teaching the fundamentals to his children, their friends and his nieces and nephews.
After his retirement, Jim enjoyed winters in Arizona tending his yard and citrus trees, hiking with a local group, golfing and socializing with their "winter" friends and neighbours.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Leslie and their children and grandchildren: Bruce, Chad and Katherine (Joleen), Ted and Laurel (James), and Jamie and Bob.
No service by request. Internment of ashes in the family plot in Chilliwack at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to North Okanagan Hospice House would be appreciated.
