Jim passed away peacefully at Vernon Hospice House on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the age of 87 years, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Jim was born July 25, 1923 in Donegal, SK, the fourth child (and only son) of Irish immigrants. He began his working life with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, then owned a General Store in Bechard, SK, followed by owning and running a Royalite Bulk Fuel Dealership then began his long-standing civil service career with the Government of Canada. When he retired in 1984, he was managing the Canadian Employment and Immigration Centre in Lloydminster, SK. Following his retirement, Jim and his wife moved to beautiful Vernon, BC.
During his “retirement”, Dad had various endeavours, some of which were owning a used book store, bookkeeping for Bertelsen Plumbing and Little Kingdom store. Dad loved reading, crossword puzzles, winning at cards and games with friends and family and taking his chances with the slots at the casino. He loved telling and hearing a good joke and always had time for a visit.
Jim will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Sybil; his three sons, Richard (Linda) of Vernon, BC, Gary of Vernon, BC and Spencer (Julie) of Red Deer, AB and by one daughter, Hilary Wolgram of Armstrong, BC. He is also survived by his beloved 7 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
At Dad’s request, there will be no formal service, however, a private family gathering was held.
