James Poetker

November 27, 1932 – October 28, 2013

James W. Poetker was born in Luseland. Sask. on Nov. 27, 1932 to Paul and Helena Poetker. After several moves, the family settled in at Aldergrove, BC.

James had very successful careers, first as a Principal in the Delta School District for over 20 years, then as a Realtor and Vice President for NRS Block Bros. and a Realtor with Re/max.  One of his great loves was music – singing and conducting including an award winning school band, church choirs and cantatas.  He was a member of a male quartet “The Crusaders” who performed weekly on a live radio broadcast.  In his retirement he did some traveling and enjoyed the last 5 winters in sunny Arizona. He fell ill 7 months ago and passed away in the comfort of his new home in Vernon on October 28, 2013.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Ann in 2005. He is survived by his second wife Darlene, a retired RN, who cared for him during his illness, his son Darrell (Sharon), grd. Sheri; daughter Connie (Ken Schellenberg), grch. Michael, Katrina, Jessica, Thomas and Mathew as well as 3 brothers and 4 sisters and many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.  He will be sadly missed.

A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Peace Portal Alliance Church (15128 27B Ave., Surrey, BC). In Lieu of flowers donations to the Union Gospel Mission (601 E Hastings St  Vancouver, BC V6A 1J7) would be most appreciated.
