April 26, 1954 - May 4, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Weed (Stair) on May the 4th, 2019 at 65 years old.
Janet is survived by her loving husband Regan, her children Sara (Troy Brown) and Shane (Kristy), grandchildren Wylie, Walker and Aberley and Ember as well her brother Bob (Shelley).
Janet was born in Brooks, Alberta in 1954 to delighted parents Jean and Bob Stair. A few years after her birth, the family moved to Manitoba where she began an adventure of travel and discovery with her family as she moved about the country as a 'military brat'! She was lucky enough to return to the Brooks/Patricia area of south-eastern Alberta to finish high school.
Shortly after graduation, she moved to Vernon where (for good reason...) she stayed for the remainder of her life. Janet worked for the Monahan Agencies here in Vernon for 28 years. Janet loved working there, it was a great work place where many lifelong friendships developed over the years.
Passionate about personal hobbies and life in general, she embraced with zeal and vigour, anything she became involved with. She loved hands-on crafts such as cross stitch, quilting, stained glass, card-making and scrap-booking. She has always shared the fruits of her creative genius with relatives and friends both near and all over the world. Every nook and cranny of Janet and Regan's beautiful home in Vernon reflects her love of simple yet creative elegance.
She loved to travel with Regan, and throughout the years, they had several stellar trips all over the world: Machu Picchu in Peru, Inuvik north of the Arctic Circle, the Canals of Venice and the Eiffel tower in Paris to name a few. They shared a love of travelling adventures and went as often as they could. Janet loved getting together with her family (even if it meant she had to cook) and loved being a Grandma and spending time with her grandkids.
Janet had had two bouts of cancer as a young woman and she was acutely aware of how lucky we are to have our lives and she lived hers to the fullest. She was an extraordinary model and poster child for all of us and the need to "Just get on with it and do it now". Janet had a "killer" sense of humour and fun inherited from her dad. Right to the end of her life, she never took herself too seriously, was always ready to laugh, to play on words, out pun everyone in the room and give out (and expect back) good natured barbs and insults. Janet was always warm and kind to everyone, those that knew her will always remember her big beautiful smile.
The last part of Janet's life was spent in the amazing Hospice facility in Vernon. Our family was witness to the dedication and commitment of the staff and army of volunteers who helped make the best of the worst times and worked so hard to ensure that the journey to the end of Jan's life was both comfortable and gracious. We would encourage everyone to learn more about your local hospice and in our case, to honour Janet by making a donation to Vernon's Hospice Society in lieu of flowers.
