Jean Elizabeth Cawley

(nee Brigham)

was born on September 15th, 1919 in Hamilton, Ontario and passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2014 in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 94 years. Jean was the eldest of five children born to Charles Edward Brigham and Grace Elizabeth Brown.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by her children; Thomas Cawley, Catherine Wilson and Joy Cawley, her Grandchildren; William Cawley, Joanne (Cliff) Boutilier, Robert Cawley and Margo (Vince Fe) Skakun, numerous great-grandchildren, her sister: Barbara Thornton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; William Cawley, her brothers; William Brigham, Joseph Brigham and James Brigham and by her parents; Charles and Grace Brigham.

Jean and Bill met in Fingal, Ontario at the RCAF Training Center. Jean was a Radio Telephone Operator and Bill was an Instructor with the Bombing and Gunnery School in Fingal. They were married November 20th, 1946 in Toronto, Ontario.

Mom was a caring woman with a great sense of humour who was never shy with her opinions. She was a volunteer with the knitting group at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She knitted many toques, scarves and baby outfits. Mom and dad loved travelling around Canada and the United States. They often took road trips around British Columbia in the summertime and for many years, wintered in Southern California.

In respecting Jean’s wishes, she was cremated and no funeral service will be held. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Jean to the charity of their choice.

A heartfelt thank you to Sally Cawley and Jamie (Robyn) Cawley and family for your love and affection over the years. The family wishes to thank Carrington Place for all of the wonderful care and friendships she found there. A special thank you to Dr. A. Chan, Dr. Pontifex and Eloise for your compassionate care.
