December 13, 1937 - April 4, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Canning on April 4th, 2019 at Gateby Care Home in Vernon. Jean was born in Biggar, Sask. on Dec.13rd 1937 to Olive (Barugh) and Victor Knapp. Her caring and compassionate nature led her to nursing as a career. She graduated as a psychiatric nurse in 1958 and went on to care for seniors in care until her arthritis caused her to retire early from a career she truly loved.

Jean was predeceased by parents Victor and Olive Knapp, sister Helen, her Grannie and Grandpa Barugh, uncle Walter Barugh and dear uncle Jack Barugh. Jean leaves behind and will be dearly missed by her partner Bob Heuther, Vernon, mother Louise Knapp, Sask., sister Margie Knapp, Langley, brother Rick (Lynn) Knapp, Biggar, Sask., children Randy Canning (Cindy), Falkland, Brenda Canning (Emery), Vernon, grandchildren Sarah (Jay), Curtis and Natasha (Steven) Lacroix, Lindsey (Todd) and Chase Canning, great-grandchildren Yaven, Lydia and Carmen.

Honorary family also included Keith and Lauree Schiehl, great-grandchildren Saban and Evangeline. Sisters-in law Lela Gee and Linda (George) Scott, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend of many years Doris Paiges, Chase, BC.

The biggest highlight of Mom's life was her grandchildren whom she loved to spoil with special moments and memories that will be cherished by each of them for the rest of their lives. She also found great joy in being fortunate enough to see her great-grandchildren join her family and watch them grow.

Mom lived by these words that she embroidered and framed years ago. I shall pass through this world but once. Any good that I can show to any human being, Let me do it now, Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.

A celebration of life will be held on May 25th, 2019 from 2 - 4 pm at Schubert Centre.

The family would like to extend a big thank-you to all the Gateby staff (past and present) for all their hard work and the compassionate care Mom received over the past 10 1/2 years. We would also like to thank Dr. Dyck, for taking Mom as a patient after her move back to Vernon and monitoring her needs in a very kind and gentle way.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gateby Care Home for the purchase of a single bed convertible chair for use by families to be able to spend the night with their palliative family members.

We love you and will miss you Mom/Nan/Sis/Partner/Daughter/Friend until we meet again.
