Jean Giffen

(nee Perschbacher)

A devoted mom and cherished grandmother, you will be deeply missed. Every day of her life, a bright light that lit the world with her grace, dignity, generous spirit, and concern for others. She was the rock of her beloved family, which she nurtured and shaped with rare wisdom and inexhaustible love. Jean died peacefully on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007 surrounded by her loving family in the home she shared (last four years) with her daughter Donna, in Castlegar, B.C. She had a long and remarkably courageous battle with PBC. Mom will be forever cherished in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. Mom had a close relationship with our Saviour and Lord and showed her children His love and forgiveness by example. Mom had the ability to help those around her to see what was truly important. Thank you dear Mom, we will forever carry precious memories of you. Jean was born in Salt Prairie, Alberta and grew up in Salt Prairie and Edmonton. She married Reginald James Giffen in 1952 and raised 9 children who were the lights of her life. Raising 9 children was not an easy task for a mother who often worked outside of the home. Jean had many passions in her life in addition to her children. She was an avid gardener and had a love of painting. Mom will always be known for her passion for the Lord and her studies of the Bible. She supported numerous charitable organizations to better the lives of others. Jean is survived by her nine children; Darlene (Jacques) Marois, Patrick (Barbara) Giffen, David Giffen, Rodney Giffen, Paul Giffen, Peter Giffen, Gloria McDermott, Linda (Bob) Jones and Donna (Hans) Zerrath; 33 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Stoner and Dorothy Peake along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Edith Perschbacher; her sisters, Yvonne, Elsie and Julia; her grandchildren, Jesse and Sarah and husband, Reginald. May you have a wonderful reunion with those you love. The Funeral Service was held at the Coldstream Christian Church on Tuesday, January 30th, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend David Hockley officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Jean to Life Outreach International (Water For Life), P.O. Box 4000, Langley, B.C. V3A 8J8.
