AUGUST

AUGUST-Jean Parr; born May 31, 1925 in Belfast, Ireland; passed away Saturday evening July 8 at Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family; resident of Vernon since 1947. Predeceased by her husband Fred in 1995, her sister Amelia Bennett and brothers Bill, Tom and Jack Pearson; she leaves behind her sister Nell Daisley of Vernon, sisters-in-law Kaye Pearson of Vancouver, Kaye Priegar and Mary Hughes of Westbank, Helen August of Kelowna, daughters Livina (Heather) Hiacinth (John Watt) of Winlaw, BC, Suzyn August (John Buskop) of Vernon, sons Rick August (Fran) of Winfield, Tom August of Vernon, Tony August (Carol) of Surrey and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was Nana to six grandchildren and Great Nana to 3 great-grandsons. For Jean, her mainstays in life were her family, golf, curling and various entertainment committees, where her love of humour and outrageous fun really shone. She cut up many a dance floor in her time and sang harmony and solos for/with her children and at those fun gatherings, at the yacht club in the 50’s and 60’s and at the summer cabin that Fred built on Okanagan Lake, and later at Spall Golf Course.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Interior Health (Home Support), in particular nurses Rowena and Barb and care aides, whose compassionate guidance and care allowed Jean to be at home up until the last few days; Eleanor Monsma, owner of The Victorian Seniors Retirement Residence, and her wonderful staff for all their love and assistance; emergency and 2nd floor staff VJH; the graciously compassionate staff at Hospice House, Dr. Mori, the pharmacists at Wal-Mart and many more who gave that ‘little’ extra that means so much.

A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, July 15 at Essentialist Church of the Christ, 2001-45th Avenue, Vernon, BC at 2:00 PM; Wayne and Bob Wilson co-officiating; reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice, The Red Cross and/or Vernon Hospice House would be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
