May 16, 1931 - April 24, 2019
Heaven welcomed another angel on April 24th. Jean Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother left to sing in heaven's choir. She was 87 years old and would have been 88 on May 16th.  Jean and her twin sister Joan were born in Vernon to Amil and Georgina Kaminski. She was blessed to be one of 7 children, and she remained close friends with them throughout the years- especially her twin Joan, with whom she spent time nearly every day. In 1953 Jean married Norm, her childhood sweetheart, and followed him to 100 Mile and then to Los Angeles. Together they had 3 boys who Jean loved and adored.  Eventually they moved back to Vernon and they opened the Vernon Furniture Emporium, where she worked with Norm running the family business. In her spare time Jean enjoyed cooking and baking and entertaining.  She was talented at knitting and crocheting and generously made heirloom keepsakes for everyone.  Her favorite pastime was playing Bingo, especially with her sisters.  But most of all, Jean loved the Lord and had a strong faith in God that delivered her through many of life's difficulties. Jean is survived by her sons: John (Diane), Bill (Lilly), Tom (Mandy); her grandchildren: Quintina (Travis), Levi, Michael, Madelyn, Jacob and Amy; and great-grandchildren, Isabel and Therin; as well as her sisters:  Millie, Winnie and Joan.  She also had numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Norm, her brothers Eddy and Fred and sister Ena.  Her family would like to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the staff at 2nd Floor Gateby for the wonderful care they provided over the years. There will be a Funeral Service for Jean on Friday, May 3rd at 11 am at the Alexis Park Church (3906 - 35A Street). Internment will take place for family prior to the funeral at 9:30 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."  John 14:27. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family's on-line obituary @ www.MyAlternatives.ca   Arrangements entrusted to  Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services.
