JENS VEST passed peacefully into the house of the Lord on May 23rd, 2004 at the age of 87 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Gertrude (Moorey), sons Richard (Gennie) and Dwaine, sisters Maren (Paul) Mageau, Margrethe Hough, Karen (Terry) Stevens, Henriette Johnsrude, brothers Hans (Olive), Peter (Alice), John (Julie), brother-in-law Arnoll (Glenna) Moorey, sister-in-law Olive Moorey, grandchildren Marisa and David as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close family friends. Jens was born in Seven Persons, Alberta on April 22, 1917. He met Gertie in Fort Macleod when he was stationed there in 1942 with the Royal Canadian Air Force. They made their home in Edmonton where they lived for over 50 years in the Beverly area. Jens was a gifted mechanic and also greatly enjoyed woodworking. His joy was making music – he played accordion, harmonica and the keyboard – and he sang with a beautiful bass voice in the Beverly United Church choir for about 25 years. Jens and Gertie moved to Vernon, B.C. in June, 2002. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Beverly United Church, 11910-40th Street, Edmonton on Saturday, June 5th, 2004 at 2pm. Cremation has taken place in Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Vernon and District Hospice Society, 3506 – 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4.
