It is with great sadness that the family of Jill Kennedy announces her passing on January 18th, 2009 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Vernon, BC. Jill was born in Nelson, BC in 1916, one of 14 children.
She is survived by husband Don Kennedy, Vernon, BC and daughter Janice Blakeney (Saul Kelner) and grandsons William (Billy) and Adam Kelner of Toronto, Ontario, stepson William Kennedy (Yvonne), step granddaughter Suzanne Halley (Patrick), step great grandchildren Sophie and William Halley all of Ottawa, Ontario and step granddaughter Michelle Kennedy of London, England, sisters Jane Seaby, Nelson, BC, Gladys Redman and Joan McCluskey, Vernon, BC and brothers David (Buster) Wigg, Nelson, BC and Arthur Wigg and Don Wigg of Penticton, BC.
She is predeceased by her parents, Mabel Anne and Albert Wigg and first husbands William (Bill) Blakeney and Terrance Rosling and sisters Gertrude Lowry, Vancouver, BC, Florence Wigg, Vancouver, BC, Verna (Biddy) Jakeman, Vernon, BC and brothers Eldon Beale, Las Vegas, Nevada, twin Jack Wigg and Lawrence (Sonny) Wigg of Nelson, BC.
Jill grew up and attended school in Nelson, BC after which she enlisted and was one of the first 30 women posted to London during WWII where she spent 3 years at Headquarters in central London as secretary to Air Marshall Edwards, Head of the RCAF forces in England. Jill was awarded the British Empire Medal on January 1st, 1946.
Services celebrating the life of Jill will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Vernon, BC on the 93rd anniversary of her birth on January 23rd at 1:00 pm followed by a reception. At her request, cremation to follow and interment in Toronto at a later date.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
