Sep 14, 1922 - Jan 7, 2018
Born in Hanley, SK and passed away peacefully at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on January 7, 2018.

He was educated through to the eighth grade when he joined up and was sent to serve overseas. He was a prairie boy who was brought to the Vernon Army Camp to train with the other soldiers in his platoon. He returned to Saskatoon after the war and met and married a young nursing student, Pauline Gerein.

Dad joined the Saskatoon City Police on April 1, 1946. Soon afterwards, with a secure job, he married Pauline on June 10, 1946. Dad remained with the Saskatoon City Police until 1977 when he retired as Deputy Police Chief. He was a simple man who loved his family and church.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and remained a member of Council 1517 until his passing. He was also a dedicated Legion member and a Veteran.

Dad spent his summers after retirement at the cottage at Emma Lake and winter in Apache Junction, Arizona. In 1995, mom and dad moved to Vernon, BC and purchased a mobile home in Big Chief. They enjoyed the Okanagan together until mom's passing on August 7, 2003.

Dad was predeceased by his eldest son Garth in 1985 and wife Pauline in 2003. He remained in his home until falling and breaking a rib. He needed surgery for some issues and the doctor determined he had kidney cancer and removed his one kidney, making it difficult to live alone. He moved into Carrington Place and was a resident there until 2013 when he developed pancreatitis and needed additional care.

In January 2014 he moved to his final residence at Heritage Square. Dad was a gentle soul with a quick wit and a twinkle in his eye. He was kind to everyone he met and never took anything for granted. He appreciated each and every day.

Left to grieve him are his daughter Lynne (Dana Hoever) and son Murray (Kate Hodgson), his four grandchildren Alison (Jon Gittoes), Crystal Wood, Doug Wake (Sarah Bounds) and James Wake (Jen Cowell).

He also has four great-grandchildren, his brother and best friend George Wood and step-siblings Ray Aikman, Shirley de Deugd and Nora Aikman, numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Aucamp and Dr. Dyck, the nurses on two west and most of all the staff at Heritage Square where dad lived the last years.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
