JOHN ANTON

JOHN ANTON

Anton, John

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved father and grandfather John Anton, who passed away May 14, 2014 at the age of 89.

John’s life journey began on December 27, 1924 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. His thirst for adventure led him to join the Royal Canadian Air Force at 18, bravely serving as mid-upper air gunner during World War II. He also met Betty, the love of his life, in England and they became inseparable for the next 59 years. After a successful 35 year career in wholesale management in Alberta, John and Betty retired to the Okanagan. In his 21 years in Vernon, he was an active member of the community, giving his time generously to many organizations. He was blessed with a rich life, friends and good times, logging many happy hours on the links, playing cards and building outdoor furniture. He also travelled the world with Betty by his side. John moved to Edmonton in 2011 to be closer to his family and passed away peacefully with family by his side.

John was preceded in death by his parents Rochus and Rosa, wife Betty and siblings Mary, Jake, Katie, Phil, Tillie and Pauline. He is deeply missed by his son Richard (Mary) and daughter Susan (Steve) and beloved granddaughter Nichole. Also grieving are his sisters Margaret and Rose as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre for their care and compassion during the past eight months.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home followed by refreshments in the Tea Room (Vernon arrangements in care of Vernon Funeral Home).

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to do so may make donations in John’s memory to the charity of their choice.
