It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing, of our father John Mark Griffiths at the age of 95, on March 6th. Dad was born on July 9, 1919 in Gwaen-Cae-Gurwen, South Wales to Edgar James and Lizzie Kate. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen Grace in April of 2011 and brothers Tom and Marshall and sister Marian. He is survived by his children: Gail (Richard), Mark (Livvy); grandchildren: Sam (Shawna), Sara (Charles), Denielle and Grant; and great grandchildren: Gage, Angus, Kristopher, Abigail, Amelia, Tycesen; his brother Donald and extended family. Dad came to Canada in 1931 with his mother and two brothers, Donald and Marshall (brother Tom and sister Marian were born in Canada), settling on the West Coast. Dad served overseas during WWII with the RCASC, returning to Canada in 1943 suffering the effects of tuberculosis. Dad was greatly assisted by the Tuberculosis Veterans Association – Branch 44 during this time. After convalescing in Victoria for a year, Eileen and John met and were married in Vancouver in 1945. Mom and Dad lived in North Vancouver until 2006 when they moved to Vernon. Dad loved to travel and took many trips, mostly on his own with a backpack staying in hostels. But a favourite was the one he and Mom took to Australia and New Zealand. Next to travelling, Dad loved to fish and in his trusty Gai Mar II he spent many hours in the “salt chuck” trying to catch the big one! Dad had a number of careers over the years, his pride and joy being the work he did with the TB Vets – Branch 44 as their General Manager. He worked tirelessly to develop the Tag Association and assist fellow veterans during his tenure with the Branch. The family would like to thank the staff at Canterbury Court for their kind care and friendship; the IHA Care Aides who visited Dad daily; the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on both the 2nd Floor West and 3rd Floor North during his last weeks and Dr. Borchert and his staff.
