John Hutchison Stringer passed away peacefully on January 30, 2019 at the age of 83. He will be remembered and sadly missed by his daughter Louise (Frank) Fenwick, daughter-in-law Cheryl Stringer, daughter Colleen (David) Wiens, nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was sadly predeceased by his wife Ruth, daughter Kathy, and son Rodger.

John was born and raised in Beaverlodge, AB. He moved to the Alaska Highway where he met Ruth and they were married January 30, 1960. Ruth and John moved to Summerland in 1964. John worked as a mechanic at Trout Creek Service Station and then Peach City Esso Station in Penticton before moving to Rossland and then Sparwood where he and his son Rodger managed the Esso service stations.

Upon returning to the Okanagan, he worked at the Shell station in Summerland and started a business with George Jenner. John then spent five years working for the Department of Highways in Port Clements on the Queen Charlotte Islands before finishing his career in Vernon.

In their retirement John and Ruth travelled to many places in North America including Prince Edward Island, Arizona, Mexico, and Alaska. John enjoyed playing crib and was very active in the Summerland Seniors Center.

A Memorial Tea will be held for John on April 20, 2019 at 1 pm at Providence's Summerland Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Ave., Summerland, BC.
