1931 – 2014

John (Jack) Anderson Bell, 83, passed away on December 25, 2014, at the North Okanagan Hospice House.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annafred; children Randy (Deb), Cochrane, AB; Wendy, Israel; Mike (Andrea), Calgary, AB; Lynn, Calgary, AB; Tony (Karen), Auburn, Washington; Jill, Ottawa, ONT; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents Helen and Rev. William Bell; brothers Jim, David, Bill and sister Alison.

Born in Jasper, AB, Jack spent his early years in Saskatchewan and Edmonton. After graduating from high school in Melfort, SK, he attended the University of Alberta, graduating with a Geology Degree. He met his wife, Annafred (Fraser) and they were married in Calgary on December 30, 1955. Together, Jack and “Freddie” raised their six children in Calgary where he continued his career in the oil and gas industry with many companies including: Tenneco Oil Exploration, Sinclair Oil Corp., and French Petroleum Company. In 1980, the family moved to Vernon. He continued to consult for companies and retired his career with Mannville Oil & Gas.

During his active years, he was a member of a Melfort Pipe Band, coached swimming at the Calgary Winter Club, became an avid golfer as a member of the Vernon Spallumacheen Golf and Country Club, was an ardent fan of the Vernon Vipers hockey team. He enjoyed fishing and family activities at their summer cabin at Mabel Lake.

Respecting his wishes, no funeral service will be held and friends are invited to an open house to celebrate his life with Freddie at her home on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a private gathering for family in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the BC Cancer Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
