John Baptiste Marchand
John Baptiste Marchand 91 years old passed away peacefully at his home at Irish Creek area of Westside Road, Tuesday July 17, 2012. He was predeceased by his dad Alec Marchand, his mom Helene Marchand, sisters Laura Cohen (Marchand), Florence Mitchell (Marchand) Marjory Eli (Marchand) Louise Isaac (Marchand) , brother Mike Marchand. Survived by sisters Kate Penning (Marchand), Shirley Leon (Marchand), brothers Ralph Marchand, Steve Marchand, Art Marchand, Robert Marchand.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years Marguerite Marchand, their three sons Lane (Chris) Marchand, Randy Marchand, Bernie (Sherry) Marchand, two foster sons Gerry William, Ray (Korenna) William, also raised his nephews Eric (Chris) Mitchell, Al Mitchell and niece Linda (Brian) Ferguson (Mitchell).
Also grandchildren Anthony Marchand, Justin Marchand, Tanya Marchand, Lee Marchand, Mike Marchand, Carley Marchand, Mark Ferguson, John Ferguson, Bill Ferguson, Vanessa Mitchell, Sam Mitchell Extended family Andrew Jack, Janice Jack, Mary Jack.
Great-grand children Zoe, Selena, Thunder, Jared, Cameron, Miriam, Matt, Victor, Ayub, Courtenay, Serena, Olivia.
John was born April 12, 1921 in Vernon, BC, loved hunting and riding horses as a child, he played ball on the all native baseball team called the Bluebirds. His love of sports had him coaching his sons baseball and hockey teams in Vernon. Was directly involved with minor baseball and minor hockey for many years.
John was a war veteran, survived world war II as a gunner and then infantry.
John was employed at the Hoover’s Sawmill then at Vanguard’s in Winfield. Was a logger, rancher, farmer before settling down with his family at Irish Creek. His greatest love in life was being surrounded by his family. Where he shared his knowledge and life experiences with the many, many stories that he shared with us. He was a role model, he was a great inspiration to everyone that he came in contact with.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church with Father Ryszard Hanaczewski officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
