In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness the family of John Melville Silas Hudgin announces his untimely passing after a brief illness.
Predeceased by his parents Melville and Frances Hudgin, he was an only child born in Toronto and raised in Barrie, Ontario.
John married Nancy in 1975, raising her daughter Katherine and in 1977, Sara was born. His love and devotion for these girls was insurmountable.
John's easygoing and gentle personality created long-lasting friendships throughout his active life including while living in Auckland, New Zealand 1987-1990.
John loved downhill skiing at Silver Star Mountain and Mt. Washington and long-distance cycling. He belonged to the Vernon Outdoor Club and the Cross Canada Cycle Tour Society in Vernon, and the Comox Valley where he retired in 2022.
John was a lifelong BC Hydro employee beginning his career as a journeyman carpenter. At age 50, he attended BCIT, Vancouver BC graduating with a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. He had volunteered as an ambulance attendant in Enderby, BC, so this was a natural progression in his career.
John is survived by his wife Nancy of 49 years, daughters Katherine and Sara, brother-in-law Grant Hollands, cousin Sharon (Jack) Campbell, nephew Sean Hollands, niece Christina Hollands (Ben and Beatrix), and his beloved dog Cookie.
A special thanks to Dr. S. Gravelle and staff at North Island Comox Valley ICU, doctors and staff of telemetry and emergency departments, as well as the two Aussies from B.C. Ambulance Services for their compassion and care.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Lakers Clubhouse, 7000 Cummins Road, Vernon, BC at 2-4 pm.
Flowers gratefully declined. If you wish, a donation in John's memory to a charity of your choice is appreciated.
