John Omelchuk

John, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died on July 7th, 2009 in Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

John is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of 43 years; one daughter, Karen (Kevin Kerstens) Omelchuk and one son, Curtis (Kristi Wareham) Omelchuk all of Kelowna, BC; three grandchildren: Harper and Paisley Kerstens, and Kaitlyn Omelchuk; three sisters: Stella (Walter) Zoschke, Pauline (Zdenek Tesar) Omelchuk and Helen Omelchuk, all of Alberta, extended family and friends.

John was born and grew up in rural Saskatchewan. He attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, obtaining his B.Sc. in mechanical engineering. Following graduation, he worked for Inco in Thompson, MB where he met Janet. The newlyweds moved to New Westminster, BC, where John was employed by MacMillan Bloedel. In 1973, he and Janet moved to Vernon where John worked for Crown Zellerbach, Fletcher Challenge, and Riverside Forest Products.

John’s greatest joys included football (he was an avid Saskatchewan Roughriders fan), eating great food and the peace of nature. Above all, he loved laughing with and guiding his family. He will be remembered for his passion, generosity, strong will, sense of humor, sharp mind and loving heart.

A private family gathering will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Monday, July13th, 2009.
