June 3, 1933 - February 11, 2020
John's early years were spent growing up in East Vancouver. His sisters Helen and Elsie and he moved around East Van and enjoyed many adventures. Here they met lifelong friends. One family in particular moved to Vancouver from Princeton in 1937. This is where he first met his future wife Manda Racich. John and Manda were married in 1957 and spent 63 years in love.
John had a varied work history until 1963 when he was hired by the Municipality of Richmond. He eventually ended up in the Richmond Fire Service in 1964. Here he rose up the ranks and retired in 1996 as a District Chief.
John and Manda raised 3 sons Steven (Glenda), Robert (Teresa) and Dana (Margie). All three of the sons loved and respected John for his compassion, generosity, wisdom and PATIENCE.
John will also be remembered by his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Community Care Nurses as well as the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their support. We would also like to recognize the staff at the Vernon Hospice and Dr. Anjali Vincent, they made things easier in the last days of John's life.
John was a man of few words however, he had many stories. Those people that knew John recognized him as a "True Gentleman" and recognized how they were enriched by his friendship. To his family and friends, he would want you to know how much he treasured each of you.
The family will hold a small private memorial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be directed to the Vernon Hospice Society.
