Long time Armstrong resident, John Busteed Rice passed away peacefully at Lillooet on Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Aged 82 years. Predeceased by wife of 50 years, Elva Visger in 1999. Born at Lacombe, Ab, on May 1, 1922, John was the youngest of six children born to James & Hester Rice, Irish immigrants that came to homestead near Red Deer, Ab, at the beginning of the century. John farmed on the “homeplace” near Red Deer until he moved his family to Grandview Flats in 1964 where he learned many new skills working at the lumber mill, barn building and finally log bucking for local loggers. John was loved and appreciated for his storytelling, poetry, humour and his connectedness to the soil and the raw beauty of nature. He could be counted on as a man of principle and was an ardent student of the scriptures who looked forward with anticipation to his future beyond this temporary life. A Service of Remembrance will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, Armstrong. Pastor Don Reeve officiating. Cremation. Arrangements in the care of PERSONAL ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL SERVICE, Armstrong, 546-7237.
