JOHN SOFIAK passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Royal University Hospital at the age of 75 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty (nee Young), two sons; Rick of Calgary, AB and Bill of Saskatoon, SK, three daughters; Lynne of Whitehorse, Yukon, Karen of Saskatoon, SK and Wendy of British Columbia, four grandchildren; Kyle and Graeme Carruthers of Whitehorse, Yukon and Matthew and Chelsea Ingrouille of Saskatoon, SK, one brother William (Marilyn) of Vernon, BC and one sister MaryLou Rose of Whittier, California and many nieces and nephews. John was born on November 29, 1927 in Perdue, SK to (now deceased) John and Mary Sofiak. He was an all around athlete, playing for the Hilltops (football) and Merchants (softball). Hockey, however, was his passion and he played goal for many teams including the Saskatoon Quakers, 1948 - 1950 and again, 1959 - 1960. Following his hockey career, John went into the construction business and owned some race horses with numerous old friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations to the Alzheimers Society in respect to his wife Betty. A Celebration of John’s life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK.
