John (Jack) Alexander Winnisborrow
John (Jack) Alexander Winnisborrow Wills passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 90 years of age. Born and raised in Vernon, Jack is lovingly remembered by son, Rodney (Laurie Clarke), daughters Jacquelynne and Maureen (John Kuyper), and sister Margaret Wills, all of Vernon, grandson D’Amyn Ansell (Jasmine) and great granddaughter Erika, all of Calgary, AB. He was predeceased by his wife Lorraine “Jimmy” (Reinhard), twin brother Walter, and brother-in-law Otis Reinhard.
Jack spent his youth playing sports, particularly hockey and basketball, and was offered a basketball scholarship to the United States. Later in life Jack enjoyed water skiing, bridge games, dancing and cross-country skiing.
December 4, 1941 Jack married the love of his life, Lorraine Reinhard of Vernon. The following year he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, training in Calgary, AB and serving as Leading Aircraftman in Vulcan, AB from 1942-1945.
Returning to Vernon after the war, he worked as a skilled carpenter for Howrie Millworks and a truck driver for BA Oil. In 1955 Jack joined School District #22, Vernon as a carpenter and shortly thereafter became Superintendent of Maintenance and Clerk of Works until his retirement in 1978.
An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Many expeditions, adventures and laughs were shared with the close-knit group of four couples known as the “Busy Bees”. He often said that the best scenery was right here in B.C.!
Jack was a member of Vernon Golf Club and played golf for over thirty years. He aced four holes-in-one, the last one at age 79. He also played his age or better on more than one occasion.
A favorite pastime in recent years was sharing the view of beautiful Kal Lake with family and friends.
Friends are invited to celebrate Jack’s life at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Friday, August 31, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. Tea to follow immediately after the service.
