April 19, 1920 ~ January 17, 2007
Born on April 19, 1920 in Oude Pekela, Holland, John passed away peacefully in Castlegar, British Columbia on January 17, 2007, with his family at his side.
He will be lovingly remembered by his
son Gordon (June), his grandchildren
Terry (Trisch), Michelle (Alex) and great grandchildren, Kendra and Slade.
Numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews in Alberta and Ontario. Along with a lifetime of many friends and acquaintances.
John was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy of 46 years and son James.
In 1927 dad came to Canada from Holland with his family, settling in Vega, Alberta. During World War II he was stationed in Ontario where he met and married Dorothy Bundy. In 1946 John, Dorothy and son Gordon moved to Dawson Creek British Columbia, and in 1948 son James was born.
Dad worked at various occupations until the move to Vernon in 1957 where he was employed by the City of Vernon and B.C. Telephone Co. until his retirement in 1982.
Dad was always available to help anyone in need. His love and compassion touched the lives of many. He was an active member of Elim Pentecostal and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Vernon as well as being involved with the Vernon Christian School for many years.
Dad moved to Castlegar in April 2006.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gentle Waters Seniors Home, Noric House in Vernon and Castleview Care Centre in Castlegar for their kindness and devoted care of dad.
His smile, sense of humor and many stories will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Kinnaird Park Community Church, in Castlegar British Columbia. Dad was laid to rest in Park Memorial Cemetery in Castlegar.
Funeral Arrangements were under the care of Blaine Krist of Personal Alternative Funeral Services Trail and Castlegar.
