June 18th, 1935 – April 6th, 2015
Josef (Joe) Ryll was a respected staple of the Vernon business community. Well loved by so many, he will be sorely missed by his family, and his many friends, including those who frequented Spallumcheen Golf Course, the ANAF, the morning coffee group and those who went on fishing expeditions with him.
After a tough four months of medical complications, Joe was called Home to be with his Lord on April 6th, 2015 at the age of 79 years.
Joe, a faithful Christian, is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Martha Ryll. He will be forever loved and cherished by their daughter Christine, her husband Edwin, and their children Christopher (Paige), Mathew (Angie), Stephanie (Lee), and great-grandson, Carter, of Whitby, Ontario; as well as their son David, his wife Angela, and their son Declan of Vernon, BC; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Emmanuel and Marie Ryll, and his brothers, Richard and Herman.
Born in Kiwerce, Poland, Joe immigrated to Canada in 1954 where he worked in many different capacities such as farming (Siemens, SASK), forestry (Vancouver Island, BC), plumbing (Toronto, ONT) and eventually settling in Vernon in 1967, where he became well known as a Land Developer / Building Contractor to present day, as he would never agree to fully retire.
Joe played a large role in the soccer community playing and coaching many teams and being one of the major contributors to the original soccer clubhouse at MacDonald Park. He enjoyed spending time playing cards and pool at the former Vernon Men’s Club, where many strong relationships were formed, both personal and in business.
Some of his favorite pastimes included fishing and boating, golfing, curling, snowmobiling, traveling, dancing, and he even attained his solo flying license.
He was a very devout and loving family man, who always made everyone feel welcome. His family will greatly miss his stories, antics and his humor at the dinner table as it always kept things interesting.
A private family Interment preceded a Celebration of Joe’s Life which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. A Reception will follow in the Tea Room at the conclusion of the service.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Joe to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 1589 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 5Y7 or to the charity of your choice
