Armstrong resident, Joseph Hartwell Young, aged 83 years, passed away Monday, December 25, 2006 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Joe will be lovingly remembered by partner Fran McDonald of Armstrong; two daughters Elaine (Howard) Myers of Armstrong and Darlene (Butch) Schottle of Kalispell, Montana, USA; four grandchildren Connie Meyers (Maury Fraser) of Nelson, Pam (Paul) Lemaire of Armstrong, Jay (Kendre) Harrower of Oregon, USA and Bryan (Brianna) Harrower of Nevada, USA; four great grandchildren Melanie and Adam of Armstrong and
Jessica and Joseph of Oregon; sister Helen Young of Penticton; all Fran’s family; many cousins, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by wife Amy, parents Sarah and Robert and brother Earl. Born April 10, 1923, at Tuxford Saskatchewan, Joe served in World War II. He was an aircraft (working at
Boeing) and automobile mechanic by trade. Joe lived at Okanagan Falls for several years and was their first Fire
Chief in 1950. He was president of Branch 35 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Armstrong from 1984 to 1986. Family was most important to Joe followed by his passion for horses which led him to be a bronc rider, wagon team driver, 4H leader and judge. A Remembrance Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 29, 2006, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Armstrong. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society.
