JOSEPHINE JANE JOHNSTON
Josephine Jane Johnston (nee MacLaughlin) passed away at the age of 91 on April 30, 2007, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She is survived by her brother Isadore MacLaughlin (Grace) of Nelson BC; and sisters Loretta Rust of Kamloops BC, and Marie Manners (Charles) of Kimberly BC.
Mum will be sorely missed by her sons William Clendinning (Gloria); Robert Johnston (Susan); Fred Johnston (Barbara); her grandchildren Christine Courtenay (Mark); William Clendinning (Georgina); Carleigh Johnston; Rhiannon Johnston; Landon Johnston; her great-granddaughter Sarah Saunders; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Josephine was born and raised in Trail, BC and married her first husband, Sgt William Henry Clendinning in May 1940. Sgt Clendinning was subsequently killed in action on September 15, 1944. Josephine married her second husband, Robert Chambers Johnston, in Trail in 1948. Josephine and Robert moved to Vernon in 1948 where Robert was founding partner in the Vernon Machine and Foundry Co. Ltd. Josephine was an active parishioner of St James Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 70 years.
Prayers will be recited on Thursday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will be held at St James Catholic Church on May 4, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will follow with interment in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Hugh Clark and the staff at the Polson Wing of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for the kind and gracious care they provided to our mother.
