Joyce Elenor Rawsthorne

Joyce Elenor Rawsthorne (nee Silzer) passed away peacefully at Kelowna on Sunday, March 1, 2009. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by husband Philip and children Gary (Willy), Mike (Heather), Frances (Wayne) Joss, Cheryl Dakin, Kirby (Shari), Kerrie (Don) Brazil, Scott (Donna) and Tim (Cindy); grandchildren, Teri, Lori, Jim, Erin, Kenny, Marie, Richard, Billy, Amanda, Rebecca, Tina, Kathleen, Michael, Darien, Curtis, Zoe, and great grandchildren, Joey and Andrea.

Joyce was born June 5, 1926 at McLean, Saskatchewan. Joyce and Phil were married there on April 17, 1947 and moved to BC, settling in Oyama. Joyce worked and was President of the Union at the Woodsdale Packinghouse. Joyce was very active in the community. She was President of both the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Oyama Community Club. She worked tirelessly on getting the new Oyama Community Hall built for which she received the Order of Canada. Joyce was affectionately called “Ma” by the many kids that managed to find their way to her doorstep.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ethel Glen Unit of Cottonwoods for their outstanding care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Oyama Community Club.
