March 5, 1923 – April 6, 2010
We regret to announce the passing of Joy Wallace on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Hospice House in Vernon, after a lengthy illness. Joy is survived by her daughter Wendy Wallace of Kelowna, her daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Jack Millar of Vancouver, and her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Danny Stuart of Vernon. She is further survived by her 5 grandchildren, Craig Reimer and his wife, Tracy of Fort Nelson, Rob Millar of Vancouver, Keirsten Mendez-Nunez and her husband, José, Heather Stuart and Jamie Stuart and his wife, Allana, all of Vernon. Also, she is survived by her beloved great-granddaughters, Aibhlin, Keirabel and Autumn. Joy is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gerry Olson of Portland, Oregon, nieces and nephews, and her cousins Joan and Gerry and their families of Cornwall, England.
Joy was predeceased by her husband, Bob, in 2005. Joy was born in Toronto in 1923 and returned to England with her parents as a young girl. She enjoyed many adventures living in many parts of Canada and England throughout her childhood. Her family eventually settled in White Rock, where she met Bob. They married in Vancouver in May of 1943 and made their way to Vernon in August of 1957 where they raised their 3 daughters and enjoyed all that life in the Okanagan provided. Retirement allowed Bob and Joy trips to Europe and winters in California.
Joy will be remembered by her family and friends for her many talents including an artist’s eye for fabric and sewing, needlework, interior design, and especially her glorious Christmas decorations. Every year she created a perfect Christmas tree and a magical display.
Joy’s family wish to thank Dr. Larry Mandrek for his kind-hearted care and the wonderful staff of Hospice House for their dignified and compassionate care of our mother during her final days.
Everyone who knew and loved Joy are invited to join our family for a memorial tea to be held on Saturday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the Fireside Lounge in Regency Court (410 – 3300 Centennial Drive) where Joy has lived for the past several years. Memorial donations in Joy’s memory to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 – 27 Avenue, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4 are gratefully accepted.
