March 24, 2020
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Irene Gourdine (nee Kaiser) on March 24th, 2020, in Vernon, BC at the age of 82, after a brief illness.
Left to mourn her loss are her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph Robert (Bob) Gourdine; her daughters Joanne (Neil Gorda) of Vegreville and Louise of Calgary; her sons Joseph (Terri) of Vernon and Philip (Mary) of Australia; her grandchildren Marianne (Brian Mohr), Robert, Sophie, Claire, Luc, Mac and Lexie; and her sister, Mona (Norm McLean) of White Rock, BC. She was predeceased by her youngest son, Pierre, in 2004, and her eldest son, Michel, in 2016. Her parents, Joe and Irene Kaiser, and siblings Jean, Louise and Norman have also gone before her.
A classic 50's stay-at-home housewife, Joyce raised 6 children and ran her own home-based, china-matching service in Edmonton for several years. Joyce worked with numerous hospital auxiliaries and charities, both in Alberta and BC, donating her time, energy and love of sewing to help the less fortunate in our society. Her strength and unflappable, practical, no-drama style will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
We thank Dr. J. de Beer and the nursing staff on 2-West at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their excellent care. Cremation has taken place. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held at a later date. In Joyce's memory, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or charity of one's choice.
