It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Joyce Lloyd announce her peaceful passing at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on December 18, 2021 at the age of 87 years.
Joyce was born in Lloydminster Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver, BC at the age of 5 with her parents and older sister. She was very excited about seeing the Rocky Mountains, but she fell asleep on the train! Joyce attended St. Mary's Catholic School and was a member of the Women's Army Core in her youth. At the age of 19, while working at BC Tel (Telus), she met her future husband Lorne Lloyd at a company bowling tournament. They moved to Coquitlam, BC and Joyce left BC Tel to raise their 6 children.
She was a talented seamstress and a beautiful woman who dressed well and loved to wear hats! They were married 65 years before Lorne's passing on December 20, 2019. Joyce and Lorne shared a passion for sports and the outdoors, and we remember with fondness, all the camping trips and snow skiing we did as a family. Joyce went back to work in her mid 40's where she worked as a sales clerk at the Bay and then in the credit department at Sears before she retired.
Joyce and Lorne moved to Vernon in 2001, residing at Hillview Meadows, and then spending their final years at Canterbury Court. She enjoyed many years of her retirement playing and watching tennis (she received lessons from Milos Pospisil!), traveling and snow skiing with Lorne.
Joyce is predeceased by her husband Lorne, parents Alan and Francis Fiddes, sister Doreen Lamacraft, son Michael, granddaughter
Christine, and grandson Bradley. She is survived by her 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service/Celebration of Life to be held as a joint service with her husband Lorne at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the BC Cancer Society or the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation.
