January 27, 2022
Our dear Mom, Grace Urquhart, was called Home suddenly to be with her Lord on January 27th, 2022.
Back in 2008 Grace walked up to one of her kids and held out an envelope. "What is it?" I asked. "It's my obituary," she replied. I was confused. "Mom, what are you talking about?" "I just decided I wanted to write my own obituary," she answered.
So here it is, the obituary for Grace, written by Amazing Grace:
Here lies Grace. Now that was a life! How much can you cram into one day? Be careful! She will come up with another idea. Grace enjoyed learning and singing. Learning to play the piano and guitar, reading and challenging herself, and now the accordion. When you get up early you can swim and exercise, so as not to interfere with the full day ahead. Then along comes the elliptical. There were some recipes that Grace could create that were ribbon winning potential. Having been in Real Estate she held many positions on Boards, took many seminars, and had quite a library of books, tapes and CD's. It seems there was always time to listen in the car.
Grace sang with a renowned teacher in Vancouver, who always put on a professional show to expose her students. Every year there were trips down for practices, and of course the Really Big Show. Grace also sang Barbershop, both Lead and Bass. She always went to Church and invariably would get herself involved in all the day-to-day activities. There was always a mystery to where she came from, and who her ancestry were, but she certainly was a "Warrior." Grace lived every day as her last, and went to bed prepared to cash in if that be the case. No regrets, no big dreams left undone. Lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute.
A message to her family and friends: "Get out there and use up your time. You'll love it." I appreciated my children, Scott, Lisa, Marla and Loretta and her husband Anders and their son, Leif. I tried hard to butt my nose out of their lives, but probably didn't do a very good job. I am proud of each of them and want them to live their lives as they choose.
Thank you Mom. You were always so loving to us.
Mom was always raring to go. She had just renewed her Real Estate Licence, and was enjoying taking tap dancing lessons. She was excited to have just gotten new flooring at home, because her tap dancing practicing had damaged the floor. That was Grace! Thankfully, Grace was able to go on some amazing trips around the world before COVID hit. She went to Egypt and up and down the Nile on a cruise ship, and travelled through Israel to walk the steps that Jesus walked. This was her favorite trip. She also went to Turkey and Greece, and she sailed around the British Virgin Islands with about eight others, the Captain, and a Chef. What an extravagant adventure!
Wow, Mom! You really did pack your life full of exploits! As her kids, we have had our Mom, Grace, for more than 50 years yet we still longed for more. We are so thankful that we had Mom as long as we did. Blessings to you Mom. You will always be missed.
Due to COVID the Funeral Service for Grace will be held only for family. If you wish to watch the service, please send your email address to serviceforgrace@gmail.com and we will send you a link to the recording.
