Mrs. Katherine (Kay) Viel passed away in the Gateby Intermediate Care Residence on Tuesday, August 8th, 2006 at the age of 91 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Philip (Jenny) Viel of Nanaimo, B.C., her daughter, Janet (Ed) Witt of Lavington, B.C., five grandchildren; Sandra Viel, Rhonwyn (James) Mills, Maegan (Shawn) Gibson, Michael Witt and Cara Witt, three great-grandchildren; Hayley Viel, James Mills Jr. and Logan Gibson, her sister, Ann Burnett of Ottawa, Ontario, her sister-in-law, Adena McNeil of Burlington, Ontario and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Viel in 1979, two brothers; Bruce McNeil and Gordon McNeil and one sister, Helen Palmer. Kay was born on October 8th, 1914 in Windsor Forks, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late William & Louisa Jane (O’Brien) McNeil. She graduated from Acadia University (B.Sc.) in 1936. She married Harold Viel of Vernon, B.C. in 1945 and moved here at that time. Kay was active in All Saints Anglican Church serving with the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the B.P. Scouter’s Guild. Cremation preceded the Funeral Service which will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Monday, August 14th, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Jane Bourcet officiating. Interment of Kay’s cremated remains will follow in the Coldstream Cemetery.
