July 2, 1930 - May 14, 2021
It is with much sadness that we announce the May 14th passing of our beloved father, Kenneth Murray McAfee, after a long and bravely fought battle with Cancer and Parkinson's Disease.
Ken was born on July 2, 1930 to Jack and Ruth McAfee in LaFleche, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest of four children and was predeceased by his little sister Kathleen. Ken spent many of his early years in Saskatchewan and had fond memories of time spent on his Grandfather's farm.
It was when Ken and his family moved to BC during his high school years that he met the love of his life, Evelyn. He said he knew "this was his future" the first time he saw her. The couple wed when they were 21 and started their adventure together by heading back to the prairies where Ken hauled rigs in the oil fields.
They moved back to BC seven years later with four children in tow... the fifth child was born in Vernon. Ken and Ev owned and operated the Falkland Hotel for seven years. When the hotel sold, Ken was happy to return to driving logging truck and drove until retiring at the age of 75.
Ken was a very social person and enjoyed the company of his ever growing family and his many long time friends. He loved sports, playing baseball in his younger years and later slow pitch with family. He led teams in many Curling Bonspiels and could throw a mean horseshoe. He enjoyed hitting the links with friends and later the family fun golf tournaments.
Ken loved music and He and Ev loved dancing and socializing at many Community dances in Falkland. Spending time at the cabin at Okanagan Lake was a favorite way for Ken to be with family and friends. He often spoke of how he loved to hear the laughter of family around the campfire.
Ken was heart broken by the death of his wife Evelyn in 2016. The family feels blessed to have been able to offer support to him over those tough years. He will be missed and is lovingly remembered by sister Gail Leiske and brother Keith McAfee and their families.
He leaves behind his five children Kathy (Alf) Enns, Pat (La Verne) McAfee, Wendy (Martin) Van Hoof, Cindy McAfee and Shelly Siddall. He was a wonderful grandfather to 14 grandchildren and loved the great grandchildren as they kept coming... there were 12 when he passed with 3 soon to come.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the kind staff of Pioneer Square who went above and beyond. Thanks also to Heritage Square and to the many wonderful caregivers for their loving support.
At Dad's request there will be no funeral or celebration of life but a small family gathering in the summer.
We love you Dad... Papa... Papa G... and miss you dearly. XO XO XO
