KENNETH REES

KENNETH REES

Kenneth Charles Rees

March 20, 1950 – March 2, 2013

Ken was born in Armstrong, the first child of Nigel & Reta Rees. He grew up on Crawford Road on the family farm. His first job was at Douglas Lake Cattle Company and after a few miscellaneous jobs, he started working for CPRail from 1970-1971 where he was working when he met Betty on a blind date. They were married May 6, 1972. Their first home was in Malakwa and he was working at the Skyline Truck Stop. In 1973 they moved back to Armstrong and he started working at the mill which, at that time, was Crown Zellerbach. They bought a 5 acre parcel of land on Hallam Road and raised their 2 kids there until the house got too small so they bought and 80 acre parcel across the road. There, he pursued his dream of farming. He was happiest when he was on his tractor tilling the land or cutting the hay.

After he retired from the mill in 2008, he really got busy. He was always on the go; helping someone out or running to town for coffee. These were the happiest days of his life. He had time to spend with his grandchildren which he did any time he got a chance. His friends and family were very important to him.

Everywhere he went, he had to talk to people and because of that, he met some wonderful people when he was in the Yukon and he had several trips up there to hunt and fish; sometimes taking other friends with him. Every trip was exciting to him.

Ken also never met a deer he didn’t hit.

If he wasn’t in town for coffee, you could find him in his shop “fixing” things with his sons or helping his daughter care for a sick animal.

He was predeceased by his father Nigel in 2012 and a very close nephew, Clint Ternier in 1993.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his mother Reta, his wife and best hunting and fishing buddy Betty, son Rob (Cheryl) of Armstrong, his daughter Shelley (Jaret) West of Armstrong, son Trevor (Brandy) of Enderby, sisters Lynne (Mic) Eshpeter of Salmon Arm, Sandra (Grant) Bell of Golden, his 10 grandchildren Aidan, Chandace, Daniel, Bradley, Ashley, Kyle, Taylia, Nathan, Elianah, and Carter, and extended family.

The family would like to thank Floyd Ternier and Cole Minimide for everything they did to help in a very tough situation.

He died with his boots on, fishing with his granddaughters and his life long friend. A memorial service for Ken will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Armstrong Bible Chapel (2145 Rosedale Avenue). Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.MyAlternatives.ca.
