June 26, 1990 – May 13, 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful “Sunshine Girl”, Kristi, on Tuesday May 13 at Edmonton University Hospital following complications from a double lung transplant performed on February 17/14. Even though Kristi bravely battled Cystic Fibrosis her entire life, she always pushed herself to experience as much as possible and live her life to the fullest.

Kristi was born in Abbotsford, BC and moved to Vernon in 1997. She attended Kidston Elementary and Kalamalka Secondary, graduating in 2008. After high school, she pursued a degree in Biology at Okanagan College and then UVic. She wanted a career in health care – which suited her caring nature and true love of people.

Kristi touched many lives with her bubbly personality and ever present smile. She was beautiful inside and out, and the epitome of love and kindness. Her positive attitude toward life was an inspiration to all who met her. Kristi had a sweet but spirited personality that helped her growing up with brothers and many boys in the neighbourhood with whom she could definitely hold her own, whether it was playing street hockey or soccer in the park.

Kristi had many interests and talents, including: playing piano and guitar, singing, painting, books, photography, soccer, x-country skiing, hiking, camping, tea parties with girlfriends, and hanging out with family and friends. She loved performing and played guitar and sang at her high school graduation and played piano at CF fundraisers.

Living with CF, Kristi went through so many difficult challenges that were beyond what should be endured but she was incredibly brave without complaint. She was our hero and angel.

Kristi is survived by her parents Don and Nancy Magnusson, brothers Jamie and Patrick of Coldstream; Grandmother Geraldine Ames of Vernon; Uncles Darcy (Tanis) Magnusson of Lumby, Keith Magnusson of Kamloops, Marty (Michele) Ames of Coquitlam, Pat (Patricia) Ames of North Vancouver; many treasured cousins; much loved boyfriend Derek Kozub; and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her Grandparents Carson Ames, Gus and Janet Magnusson; and Auntie Mary Magnusson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 31 at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Church (3300 Alexis Park Drive, Vernon.)

Donations in the memory of Kristi may be made to either Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the Human Organ Procurement & Exchange Program (HOPE), Room 9120A Aberhart Bldg, 11402 University Ave, Edmonton, AB T6G 2J3.
